This is the control unit that creates hydraulic pressure.

What it is

  • A hand-operated master cylinder

  • Usually connected to a brake lever (common on:

    • Light aircraft

    • Ultralights

    • Gyroplanes

    • Experimental aircraft)

What it does

  • When the pilot pulls the lever, a piston inside the master cylinder:

    • Pressurizes brake fluid

    • Sends that pressure into the hydraulic line

  • Releasing the lever releases pressure → brakes disengage
